PPKTP – Periodically poled potassium titanyl
>55 J/cm² @ 1064 nm, 10 ns, 10 Hz | 400-3500 nm

Periodically Poled Potassium Titanyl Phosphate (PPKTP) is an advanced, engineered version of the standard KTP nonlinear crystal. Through a precise poling technique, PPKTP crystals have significantly expanded their range of applications, particularly in fields such as quantum optics.
Thanks to periodic poling, PPKTP enables efficient frequency conversion via quasi-phase matching (Type 0). This capability makes it an ideal choice for high efficiency nonlinear optical processes, including spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC), OPO, DFG, SFG and harmonics generation.
- Advantages
- Disadvantages
- Applications
- Does not suffer from photorefraction and features a high damage threshold.
- Enables phase matching across the entire 400–3500 nm wavelength range.
- High nonlinearity (>10 pm/V @ Type 1, SPDC 400->800 nm)
- Among the best options for green or red light generation, especially when CW or low-power sources are used.
- High Gray-Track Resistive (HGTR) materials are used for best performance.
- High-damage-threshold coatings allow pumping with significantly higher intensities compared to other periodically poled materials.
- IBS coatings with low absorption around 3μm.
- Laser-grade surface with low roughness available for: plano, wedged, or convex (ROC > 5 mm).
- Small poling periods could be reached down to 2μm.
- PPKTP crystals with lengths of 20–30 mm may be more prone to side-surface chiping, so extra care is required.
- During the poling process, the structure of KTP is modified, which may lead to a reduction in the material’s nonlinear coefficient.
- High CW powers still may rise Gray-Tracking effects @ 532 nm or lower wavelenghts.
- SPDC, nth-HG, SFG, DFG frequency conversions, including 400->800 nm, 775->1550 nm or 1064->532 nm
- Light squeezing or spectral narrowing
- Optical parametric amplifiers, oscillators, generators for visible spectrum to mid-infrared with tunable output
